Emma age 92 of Victoria BC passed away at Royal Jubilee Hospital on August 15, 2021. Emma was born June 1, 1929 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the third child of Conrad and Helen Weiss, formerly of Austria and Poland. Emma, her brother Sonny and her sister Mary grew up in Winnipeg.
She married the love of her life Leo Joseph Nolin on June 9, 1945. Emma and Leo had 3 children, Mary, Dennis and Sandra. Emma is survived by her brother Conrad (Sonny) Weiss of Winnipeg, her Son Dennis Nolin (Judy) of Fort Saskatchewan, her Daughter Sandra Hoff (Brant) of Victoria and her Daughter Mary Zimmerman (Rod) of Victoria.
She leaves behind three grandchildren Shane and Shelley Nolin and Jeffrey Lamarche and also eight great-grandchildren Justin, Jesse, Julianna, Dylan, Mya, Jayda, Lane and Jessica. Emma worked at Sears, Canada Customs and the RCMP. She enjoyed and took great pride in her work.
Emma was a fierce bridge player. As a talented and avid golfer, she had 3 holes in one! She almost had a 4th…. She was just so close and all the while Emma was thinking “please don’t go in” …… she was thinking about having to pay that hefty bar bill back at the Clubhouse! She and Leo built a cottage at Big Whiteshell Lake where they spent many happy summers boating, water skiing and fishing.
Emma was especially famed for producing huge homemade family meals. Perogies, cabbage rolls, pies, preserves, many fabulous delicacies. She was a passionate gardener and loved sharing her knowledge with family and friends. She simply loved flowers and animals!
She and her husband Leo Joseph Nolin moved to Victoria in June 1989. They enjoyed an active retirement with family, friends, golf and travel. Emma and Leo enjoyed travelling to Hawaii several times. Sadly, Leo passed away in Victoria in 1998.
She has resided at Carlton House of Oak Bay for the last two years. A heartfelt thank you to the staff for their kindness.
A Celebration of Emma’s Life will be held at Sequoia Centre, McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Friday August 27, 2021 at 10:00 am.
It is with great sadness the family honours the passing of a beloved matriarch. Thank you to all Emma’s caregivers and medical support.
