It is with deep sadness we announce the
passing of Eanis Lawrence Collins, age
96, of Amherst. Eanis passed away on Thursday, August 12,
2021 at the Truro Hospital.
Born in Brookdale, NS, he was a son of
the late Martin and Velma (Johnson) Collins.
In his younger years, Eanis volunteered
as a Boy Scout Leader and a Minor League Hockey Coach. In addition to
volunteering, he had a love for entertaining and in the early 1950s
formed his band ‘Chuck’s Rhythm
Gang’. They played on radio, television and
traveled throughout the Maritime
Provinces.
Eanis had a strong work ethic and was
employed at Canada Car, Express Office and in the late 50s and early
60s ran a small electrical business before joining Canada Electric (NS
Power Corp). He retired as Superintendent after 39 ½ years
with the company.
Eanis had many accomplishments over the
years. In 1999, he received the town of Amherst’s
Executive of the Year Sports Award. He was also an avid
golfer, in his later years, and participated in four Canada 55+ Senior
Games, winning Gold in PEI (2002), Silver in Whitehorse (2004), Gold
in Portage LaPrairie, Manitoba (2006) and a Silver in Dieppe, N.B
(2008).
Eanis was involved in many organizations
over his lifetime. He was a life member and past Chancellor Commander
of the Knight of Phythias, Amherst, an honorary member of the Amherst
Sergeants Mess, past President of the Amherst Golden Years Society, a
honorary member and past President of the Amherst Curling Club, a past
member of RCAFA, past member of the Amherst branch of the Canadian
Legion, past President of the Fundy Senior Games Society and a
founding (charter) member and past board member of the Nova Scotia 55+
Senior Games, and past Chairman of the
Cumberland-Westmorland Senior Golf League and a member of the Amherst
Golf Club.
He will be dearly missed by his son
James (Violet) of Porters Lake, NS; longtime companion Emily Saunders;
grandchildren, Michelle, Tammy, Jimmy; 9 great-grandchildren and 1
great-great grandchild
He is predeceased by his wives Barbara
Estabrooks and Marlene Thomas, his daughter Sherry Collins and his
bother Ralph Webber.
The family would like to thank the staff
at Parkland Truro (Fergus Hall) for their support over the past two
years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the
Jones Family Funeral Centre, 70 Church
St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where his funeral service will be held
on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 2 pm. Cremation has
taken place, with burial following the service in the Amherst
Cemetery. In keeping with Covid Restrictions,
