It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of long time Enderby resident Ruby Davyduke on July 4, 2021.
Born to Roderick and Florance Sanderson near Fort de la Corne, Saskatchewan, October 19th 1932.
Ruby grew up in Saskatchewan then moved to Pincher Creek, Alberta for work.
In 1952, while working at a logging camp in Pincher Creek, Ruby met her husband-to-be, Alec Davyduke. The two were married in 1953 in Enderby, where they settled and raised their two sons, Gerald and Roland. Family was the primary focus for Ruby. After her husband Alec’s passing she kept these comforting words nearby:
In life
I loved you dearly;
In death
I love you still;
In my heart
you hold a place
No one else
could ever fill.
As a child, Ruby never had it easy. Unfortunately, Ruby’s mother Florance passed away very early so Ruby grew up mostly in a boarding school environment and with extended family when on breaks.
She had no complaints with regards to her fate and along the way developed a strong work ethic and an unwavering independence. Those traits she carried throughout life.
Ruby along with Alec were always there whenever anyone needed help whether it be family or community. Later on as grandchildren arrived they were welcomed with open arms: Corey, Curtis, Clarke, Courtney and Brittany. All loved their times at the grandparents’ house whether it be for a few hours or a few days. Memories were made there that will never be forgotten.
Later on three great grandchildren entered the picture. Even with age and declining health, Ruby managed to keep track of each and every one.
Ruby’s ties went well beyond immediate family with frequent visits from brothers, cousins, nephews and nieces and coffee companions.
On behalf of all of us who were close to her, we’d like to say:
Thanks mom, grandma, great-grandma, auntie and friend – for a life shared, and well lived.
You leave with our love and admiration.
Please, now rest in peace.
Ruby is survived by family members; sons: Gerald (Gloria), Roland (Sonja);
five grandchildren: Corey, Curtis & Taryn Davyduke, Clarke & Penny Davyduke, Courtney & Diamond Shykora and Brittany & Reilly Meise; three great-grandchildren: Mya (Clarke & Penny), Chase (Curtis & Taryn)and Brayden (Clarke & Penny). Ruby was predeceased by her parents Roderick and Florance; and husband Alec.
We would like to thank the staff at Parkview Place for the kindness and respect they showed to Ruby in her final days.
At Ruby’s request, no funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will may be held at a later date.
