Marion Doucette
Ingonish
With sadness the family of Marion Doucette, aged 80, of Ingonish, has said farewell to our loving and kind mom, nanny, great nanny, daughter, sister, and aunt. Mom passed away on Friday, July 29, 2021. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, she was the oldest child of Fred and Ida (Rideout) Jackson.
She shared a life with her husband Bert for over 63 years. For most of that time they were together every day.
Mom was first and always a homemaker. She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by family and friends, to be cooking and baking, and to be wrapped in the ordinary conversations and activities of a life well lived. At times Mom worked outside their home, at The Point Cottages as a teenager, at The Keltic Lodge, at The Skyline Cabins, and at Admiral Irving and Doucette’s Variety Store. She volunteered with CWL and helped people whenever she could. Through those times she stayed connected to many treasured friends, sharing her strength and caring when needed, and often talking warmly of those people and the wonderful times they shared.
She is survived by her loving husband Bert, her beautiful and strong mother Ida Jackson, son Gary (Kathy), daughter Michelle (Kenny Burton), and son Ken (Trina), as well as grandchildren, Chris (Sam), Lara (David), Joseph, Beverly (Josh), and Clay, great grandchildren, Callie and Sam, sister Sandra Usifer, sister-in-law Shirley, brothers Gerald (Marilyn) and Jimmy (Sandra) Jackson, sisters-in-law Gloria (Harold Jackson), brothers-in-law Charlie (Ruth Daisley) and Fred (Agnes), her very special friend Lexie MacNeil, plus many nieces and nephews.
Marion was predeceased by her father Fred Jackson, siblings Stephen, Terry, Beverly (Gary Braunmiller), and Sandford (Shirley), brother-in-law Charlie MacDonald (Sandra), father and mother-in-law James J and Margaret, sisters-in-law Frances Powers (Frank), and Mary MacDonald (Jim), brothers-in-law James, Joe, Wallace, Leroy (Marge), and Cecil Albert.
The family would like to thank the staff of Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Palliative Care, Continuing Care, and the ALS Society for the wonderful way they looked after Mom’s every need. We would like to especially thank Dr. Ritter, the staff of the Highland Manor Nursing Home, Nicky, and Jennifer for their endless kindness and compassion during mom’s difficult journey.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral will take place at St. Peter’s Church in Ingonish Beach on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 11am, with Fr. Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. Covid-19 restrictions will be followed. Memorial donations may be made to the Highland Manor Nursing Home Foundation or the ALS Society of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
