Obituary
Elizabeth Georgette (“Liz”) Theriault
Sydney Mines
It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Liz Theriault, announce her passing on Monday, August 2, 2021. Our beautiful Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 3,1939, Liz was the daughter of the late Angus and Janet (Collier) Anderson. After graduating from Sydney Mines High School, Liz was invited to teach at the one room schoolhouse in Groves Point at the age of 16. She shared many fond memories of her students and often joked about playing with them at recess. Soon after, she attended Teacher’s College in Truro and received her teaching degree. She inspired so many young lives.
She was proud of her professional accomplishments, but even prouder of the family she built with her husband, Freeman. She was never happier than when all of the family gathered at their summer home in Rockyside. She enjoyed every minute spent in this ‘“heavenly place” swimming, laughing and playing games with her family and friends. Liz will always be remembered for writing extra-long poems for every occasion, baking and delivering goodies, shopping sprees, hip fashion sense, her love of music and a good party. Liz enjoyed many hours around the campfire playing the accordion, raising a glass and dancing the night away. Liz was always positive and optimistic and believed “it is what it is!”
Liz is survived by her loving husband, Freeman Theriault, sons, Derek (Elaine MacKenzie), Troy (Micki) and daughter Lyn McInnis (Ron). She leaves behind her most cherished granddaughters, Paige, Marli and Kelli, her “trio of angels”. She will be fondly remembered by Vicki O’Quinn and Ian Lewis, whom she loved. Liz is also survived by her sister Janet Glenham and many sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews who remember her for her generous and caring personality. She was well loved by all of us and gave back twice as much in return.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Jim (Vena) and George (Valerie) Anderson.
Nannie, we will never forget what you taught us: Live life to the fullest, don’t sweat the small stuff, be kind, help others, stick together and reach for the stars-you will achieve your dreams! We will miss and love you forever.
The family would like to express thanks to the friends, family and health professionals who supported Liz and the rest of her family throughout these last few months. Special thanks to her sister Jan and friends Robert and Judy Hillman who went above and beyond to brighten her spirits each and every day.
A funeral mass will take place on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at 2 pm in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines.
Covid 19 restrictions will apply in the church. Words of comfort may be forwarded to her family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
