Obituary of Sylvia Mitchelmore
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Sylvia Mitchelmore announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend on Monday, July 12th, 2021, at the age of 74.
Sylvia was born and grew up in Carbonear, Newfoundland, to Marion and Chesley Horwood. She attended school to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. She then accepted a position at Charles Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, in 1966. She met the love of her life, Theo and began growing a family while working various positions within Grenfell Regional Health Services This led her to working many years at St. Anthony Interfaith Home and John M Gray Center. She then retired from nursing after 34 years and spent her remaining years living in Fort McMurray.
Sylvia was a kind, strong, quick-witted and loveable person. Anyone that crossed her path would say this. Whether you are family, friends, past co-workers or just a random person at the grocery store, she would talk to everyone the same. She loved doing various crafts, having company stop by for a cup of coffee and a ‘yarn,’ telling people funny stories from years ago or teaching people her different sayings. Her love for her family was beyond measure, and she always put them ahead of herself.
“We think about you always
We talk about you still
You have never been forgotten, and you never will
We hold you close within our hearts, and there you will remain
To walk and guide us through our lives until we meet again.”
She leaves to mourn her husband, Theo; Daughter, Sheila (Darren); Sons, Owen & Brian (Valerie); Stepdaughter, Jackie(Bud); Grandchildren, Megan(Clinton), Curtis(Megan), Adam, Ryan(Erika), Alex, Adam, Lucas, Ben & Jaden; Great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Deacon & William. She was predeceased by her parents, Marion and Chesley Horwood; Brother in law, Edwin Mitchelmore.
Sylvia will be cremated, and no formal service will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
