We regret to announce the passing of Garnet Edwin Stutt, 96, of Sudbury, ON on July 9, 2021. Garnet passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. Born and raised on a farm in Moosomin, Saskatchewan to his parents, Wellington and Evelyn where he lived with his 13 siblings (all predeceased); Thelma, Audrey, Lorne, Bob, Elsie, Kay, Mary, Alan, Jean, Archie, Doris, Betty and Patricia. At the age of 10 the family moved to Hudson, Ontario until at the age of 18 when he enlisted with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and fought in France and Holland during the Second World War. He carried the demons of that war until his last breath. After the war he moved to Sudbury to work for Inco where he met and married Barbara McLaughlin (predeceased) and raised 5 children: Carol (Erik), Dennis (Diane), Barry (Cathy deceased, Claire), Kelly (Terrie and Karol), Darren (Colette). After being widowed, he met and married Rita McLaughlin and after his retirement from Inco, he settled in Toronto until his health declined and was kidnapped (his words) and moved to Sudbury (Pioneer Manor) to be closer to his children. He is survived by 11 grandchildren: Ryan, Laura, Krista, Darren, Caroline, Renee, Kyle and Megan. He is also survived by his special stepdaughter Kim Colavecchia (Tony) and grandchildren Katie, Isabella and Sophia. Of his many athletic achievements, he says he was best known for playing for the Eyre Playground Blooper Ball Team alongside his best friend Peter Zwarich where he was famous for his backspin pitching technique. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Pioneer Manor who made his stay there very enjoyable. Special mention to Jane and his multiple fiancés working in Lodge 2. Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto at a later date. Donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund would be appreciated.
