Georgie Francis Durkee
Georgie, at the age of 104, passed from this world to the next on July 10, 2021, while a resident of Nakile Home for Special Care. Born in Kemptville, Yarmouth Co, on June 10, 1917, she was the youngest child of Judson and Georgie Gray; she is survived by her only daughter, Ann Durkee-Maclsaac (David), Hebron, N.S. Grandchildren Nona (Sweetie Pie), Lynn (LaVern), Wayne, Timothy (Donna), Ronald (Amanda), all of B.C. She also leaves behind 12 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great- Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Durkee, her special son Darryl who recently passed before her and sisters Lena, Dora, Bertha, Elsie, and Glady, brothers Chester and Roy. Surviving are two nieces and two nephews, Arlene, Carol, Donnie and Alec.
She was an Honorary Member of the Yarmouth Kinette Club, a member of the S.P.C.A. and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Carleton and Yarmouth Branches. Her passion in life was growing her garden, bragging about her produce and maintaining her lawns to perfection. She drove until she was 100.
She will be missed by her family, and they wish to thank Arbors of Tranquility, Yarmouth Hospital and in her final months Nakile who gently cared for her. A special thank you to her Nakile roommate, Pauline Blades, for her caring ways, her special niece, Arlene Driscol, Halifax, who called her once and twice a day for the past 15 or more years and to Leslie Cranley-Blades, her daughter’s friend, for being so kind and supportive. And finally, to her special son-in-law, David, who assisted her over the years and loved her unconditionally.
By request, there will be no funeral. A family graveside service will be held later. Cementation will take place at Sweeny’s Funeral Home and burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery jointly with her son’s ashes. Donations in memory may be made to Ostomy Canada, your local S.P.C.A, or a charity of your choice.
