MICHAEL, Margaret Stella – Passed peacefully away at Pleasant View Towers in the presence of her family on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, Margaret Stella Michael (nee Stone), age 87. She was predeceased by her loving husband, well known local musician, band leader (Leo Michael Orchestra), and businessman, Leo; her daughter Leona; parents Walter and Agnes Stone (nee Neary); her sister Judy and nephew Jack. Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories are her two sons: Gary, and Craig (Trudy); her loving granddaughter Amanda; brothers, Herbert, Don, Raymond, Rod, and Harvey; sisters, Effie, Eva, and Nellie; special niece Michelle Pittman (Stone); close sister in-law Theresa Rockwood (Michael); and life-long friends Bob and Dorothy Caldwell. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Margaret grew up in Henley Harbour, Labrador, the second child of Walter and Agnes Stone. At the start of her life journey and career Margaret travelled to Mary’s Harbour, Labrador, to pursue a nursing career at the tender age of 16. She then adventured to work at the Grenfell Mission in St. Anthony and later travelled to St. John’s to continue her career at The St. John’s Sanatorium on Topsail Road for tuberculosis (TB) patients.
Her later years were spent working at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital and lastly the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, where she retired.
Margaret will always be remembered for her warm smile, her kind and generous nature, and her incredible devotion to family. She had a way of making each person in her presence feel special and always put the needs of others before her own.
We extend a very sincere thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Pleasant View Towers for their compassion and care of our mother.
Cremation has taken place. By request there will be no visitation. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, a private service for family and close friends (by invitation only) will be held at Caul’s Chapel, LeMarchant Road on Saturday, July 3rd which can be live streamed at 9:30 am by clicking on the following link vimeo.com/569441360
