Obituary of Abraham Peter Goertz
Abraham Peter Goertz was born on April 10, 1927 in Crowfoot, Alberta. He was the fifth of ten children. He passed away on June 20th, 2021 in the Norwood Palliative Care Centre at the age of 94 years.
He is survived by one son Calvin (Donna) and one daughter Donna (Kerry); three grandchildren, Candace, Calvin and Connor; and two great-grandchildren, David and Aurora; one sister Elsie (Rudy) and one brother Henry (Tillie).
He was predeceased by his dear “sunshine” Helen, in 2012. He liked to tell anyone the story of how they met at choir practice, and how she became the sunshine of his life on April 20, 1958, for 54 years. He was also predeceased by his father Peter, mother Maria, and step mother Anna Goertz, as well as infant sister Erna, and siblings: a second Erna, Dave, John, Peter, Agatha, Mary, and Anne.
He had a love for the land and all things God has created, he would plant tomato and flower seeds in his basement and loved watching them grow and change every day. He also had an ability to fix almost anything and so kept many an appliance or tool going for much longer than intended. Many of us were surprised that he still had all 10 fingers. He supported various mission’s organizations that he believed in. He loved the Lord Jesus, and until the end, loved to hear the old hymns. While lying in his hospital bed he would often quote from “The Lord’s Prayer” and believed “thy will be done” would prevail in his life.
A time for public visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the Tofield Funeral Chapel (5107 – 49 St., Tofield, AB). Interment will follow at The Garden Cemetery (Hwy 14 – Hwy 833) at 11:30 a.m.
A memorial service and celebration of Abrahams life will be held at 10:30 a.m., July 10, 2021 at Sunrise Community Church (3303 – 37 St NW, Edmonton, AB).
