Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing on June 17, 2021, of Peggy Dase, devoted wife to Mike Dase. Peggy was born December 15, 1943, in Lethbridge AB to Anna Marie and Norman Vair. The family moved to Medicine Hat, AB, where she grew up with her 10 siblings.
Peggy went on to Nursing School in Calgary, AB, and received her Nursing Aid Certificate. She worked first in Pincher Creek, AB, where she met Mike Dase, and second in Hanna, AB. They were married on January 19, 1963, and were married for just over 58 years. Peggy and Mike had four daughters: Barb, Carol, Michele, and Linda; they raised them on the family farm.
Throughout the years Peggy was very active in her daughters’ lives. She never missed a fundraiser at the St. Michael’s High School for the various sporting teams they participated in, watching many activities (too many to count), always ensuring they were supported.
Peggy was very active herself, a very good bowler, winning many awards for top games. She played softball with the Fishburn ladies Silver Streak team, attending several Southern Alberta Summer Games Competitions, and always enjoying all of her teammates. She learned to ski at 40 years of age and later took up golfing.
Peggy was also very creative, from quilting, to ceramics, to crocheting. She made many quilts over the years for many people, family members receiving that perfect quilt for each person. She was an incredible cook and hostess which she shared many delicious meals with family and friends.
Peggy became a true “farmers wife”! She worked hard on the farm and could operate any piece of equipment with ease. Her work ethic was truly remarkable which was embedded into all her daughters.
When each daughter was married, the sons-in-law were welcomed into the family as her own sons. She respected and loved each one of them as if they were her own. They all had a special place in her heart.
Peggy’s grandchildren were her shining accomplishment. She loved all of them so much and supported the many activities they participated in, from hockey games, to figure skating, volleyball games, dance recitals, graduations, and weddings. She would come and support them in any way that she could and was so proud of them all.
In 2005 Peggy and Mike moved into Pincher Creek. Peggy began joining several groups, participating in many levels of community service. Peggy joined the Lions Club, which she was very passionate about. She took on many roles, from President, to delivering meals to those in need, gathering items to give to the local women’s shelter, supporting the seeing eye dog campaign, daffodil campaign, and many more. In 2015 she was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services.
In December 2020, Peggy and Mike’s first great grandchild was born and she could not be happier, spending multiple visits with him and then seeing him recently! They had a very special bond!
Peggy was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Vair; brothers: Frank Vair, Ken Vair and Jim Vair; as well as son-in-law, Doug Anderson.
Peggy will be missed dearly by her husband, Mike; her children: Barb Anderson, Carol and Brian Huculak, Michele and Glenn Wilson, and Linda and Darren Dorge; her grandchildren: Scott Anderson, Kelsey Huculak and Aaron Becking, Michael Anderson, Kendra Huculak, Kylie Wilson, Jillian Wilson and Tyler Reed, Bryson Huculak, Brooke Dorge and Shea Sagrafena, Sydney Dorge and Spencer Dorge; and her great grandson Sullivan Becking. Also left to mourn are siblings: Pat Franzen, Gloria Vair, Elaine Vair, Don and Dixie Vair, Tom and Diane Vair, Sue and Henry Seifried, Vicki and Tony Steidel; sister-in-law, Hilda Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
May you ride high and watch over us all, we love you mom!
