In 1995 Barbara went to work for Charles and Nora as a nanny, when she had arrived on the ranch, Dan was the first person Barb had met. On June 15, 1996 they were married in Red Deer.
While living in Red Deer, Dan worked on a pig farm. He applied for a job on a dairy farm in Beaverlodge, he was hired and moved in the beginning of July. Barb stayed in Red Deer due to the fact she was pregnant and due anytime. On July 16, their son Jared was born. In September, Jared and Barb moved to Beaverlodge where they lived for 9 years. When the dairy farm went out of business, they both came back to southern Alberta and lived in Coaldale. During this time, Dan worked for SRI modular homes welding frames together. He came down with double pneumonia and was let go.
In October 2008, Barb went to work for Roger snow in Stirling. After Dan recovered, he also worked for Roger, working in the hemp plant until October 2010. He was later diagnosed with Colon cancer. The doctors operated and said the operation was successful. During this time, Jared was involved in bowling where Dan became a coach. In the spring of Jared’s junior year, Jared decided to play football where Dan volunteered to take photographs of the football games. After Jared graduated the family moved to Shaughnessy.
