Korinek, Frederick John Born: Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic: Nov 19, 1936
Died: Fonthill, Ontario May 23, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, uncle and grandfather Frederick John (Fred) Korinek. Husband and life partner of Shirley Alice Jeffery Korinek for 56 years; father to Dr. Valerie Korinek (Simonne Horwitz) of Saskatoon and Kimberley Korinek (John Barrett) of Toronto. Much loved grandfather of Thomas and Daniel of Saskatoon; and Jack, Hilary, Jacob, and Ken of Toronto. Predeceased by his parents John and Anna Korinek.
Fred was born in the Czech Republic and immigrated to Canada in 1950 at the age of thirteen. He and his parents settled in Toronto where he attended Jarvis Collegiate. A lifelong entrepreneur Fred left high school to found Residential Lighting Studio Limited in 1952. Fred guided that boutique, high-end manufacturing and design firm to tremendous commercial successes. Residential Lighting chandeliers, that he designed, could be found in homes across Toronto and many public venues like the Royal Alexandra Theatre. Fred and Shirley raised their family in the Kingsway area of Toronto’s west end. There, and at the family cottage in Wasaga Beach, they enjoyed making great family memories. Fred loved fishing, photography, family bike rides, the beach and barbecuing.
After thirty years at Residential Lighting, he took early retirement and embarked on a very successful second career as a day trader. In the mid-eighties Fred and Shirley relocated to Vineland, purchasing their beloved farm Pine Tree Farm on the Niagara Escarpment where he ran a select choose and cut Christmas Tree and Wreath operation. Pine Tree farms shipped wreaths across North America, one memorable order went all the way to Alaska!
Fred was a passionate family man, devoted husband, and proud grandfather. An irrepressible force of nature, Fred died peacefully, from heart failure, after a mercifully short period of declining health. Our family wishes to thank Dr Kim, Dr. E. Bangerk and all the amazing physicians and nurses, particularly Karen and Binod, on floor 2A at the St. Catharines General Hospital who provided excellent, compassionate care in his final week.
A private visitation and funeral will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, Fonthill. Those who wish to view the service may do so via live stream by going to the PELHAM FUNERAL HOME Facebook page on Thursday, May 27th beginning at 1:30pm, please log on by 1:15pm. Burial will follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, the Scott Mission, Toronto, or to Covenant House, Toronto.
