Bertha’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Bertha Childs announce her peaceful passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on May 23rd, 2021 at the age of 68 years after a lengthy sickness with polycystic kidney disease. Bertha was well known for her work ethic, humble lifestyle, witty personality and love of the outdoors. She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Gloria (Albert) and Vanessa (Rick); brothers and sisters: Samuel (Cassandra), Paul (Ruby), Carl (Wavey), Lillian Kendell (Charlie), Melina Joyce (Wayde) and Peter (Jody); brother and sisters-in-law: Gerald Childs (Myra), Effie Sheppard (Daniel), Helen Joyce (Ross), Martha Joyce (Lorne), Christine Hartwig (Gordon), Roland Childs (Lana) and Karen Sheppard. Special friends John, Lorne and Kate Sobanik. Bertha was predeceased by her husband Walter (December 2020), Parents Freeman and Annie Sheppard, sister Mary Sheppard, parents’ in-law Richard and Peral Childs, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to her caregivers June Park and Laurie Joyce, the Dialysis Unit at WMRH and all the nurses for their special care during Berthas Sickness. Cremation has taken place, there will be a service of remembrance held at St. James Anglican Church Lark Harbour NL on Thursday, May 27th, 2021 with Rev, Effie Organ officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or memorial donations accepted to St. James Anglican Church fund or Canadian Kidney Foundation.
