Obituary
Frances Ann Bakewell
December 30, 1952 – May 16, 2021
As the eldest of David and Elizabeth’s five children, Ann’s childhood was filled with love and many adventures. Summers were spent with extended family in Roberts Creek. She joined Brownies at 8 and Guiding became a lifelong passion. Ann obtained a degree in microbiology before pursuing a career and a degree in nursing. She worked in several places before settling on the Sunshine Coast to work at St Mary’s Hospital and fulfill a childhood dream to build her own home on family property in Roberts Creek. After retiring from the hospital Ann worked at Christenson Village and instructed at Capilano University. Ann truly experienced life and her many highlights included swimming with dolphins, hiking Mount St. Helens with Guides, visiting her brother and touring in Australia, traveling across Canada, and kayaking along the coast.
Ann loved being a Mom and treasured Marie, Luckner (Ameleia), and Mekia. Ann also leaves behind her siblings Karen(Brian), Fraser(Pat), Geoff(Annie) and Gavin(Jo), her dearest friend and honorary sister Liz and many close friends and family. Through her diverse interests Ann touched many people’s lives. Ann will be missed more than words can say.
The family would like to extend thanks to Liz, Kathy, Jack and Ralean, Lorna, Linda, Wendy, Dr Goojha, Petrina, Aili, Heizel, Verline, and many others who helped make Ann’s battle with ALS more comfortable. She passed peacefully at home, which was her wish. Ann supported many charities, especially the Canadian Foundation for the Children of Haiti.
