With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rosina Colica of Squamish BC on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2021 at the age of 92.
“Rosa” was born on April 13th 1929 in Vibo Marina, Italy, the second youngest of nine children and step-children of Domenico and Rosa LoGiacco. She and her husband Leonardo Colica were married in 1957 and immigrated to Canada in 1961 and settled in mining town of Britannia Beach. They became parents of their only child Lucio a year later. Leonardo found work in the mill of the Britannia mine while Rosa perfected her home-making skills. In 1975, after the mine closed permanently, Leonardo became employed at the Woodfibre pulp mill, and the family moved into their newly built house in Hospital Hill where Rosa and her husband remained in until 2020.
Rosa was quite talented at cooking, baking bread, sewing, and doing needlework and crochet. She had a passion for gardening as could be witnessed by her flower gardens of gladiolas and dahlias at her Britannia Beach house, as well as the multiple varieties of roses and cascading clematis and wisteria at her Hospital Hill house. Very devoted to family, friends and neighbours, Rosa helped others unconditionally. She had a tremendous share of raising her two grandchildren Mary Ann and Vincent, and always made herself available to help or teach others especially in the areas of cooking and gardening,
Rosa is survived by her 97-year-old husband of 63 years Leonardo Colica, her son Lucio Robert Colica, her granddaughter Mary Ann Rose Colica, and her grandson Vincent Leonardo Colica.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, there will only be a small private family service. We thank George McKenzie of Squamish Funeral Chapel & Crematorium who has been entrusted with the arrangements.
