Obituary
With tremendous sadness, we share the passing of Kathleen Sarah Knight on May 11, 2021, at Bluewater Health, Sarnia. Kathleen was born to Dorothy (nee Morgan) and Anthony (Tony) Vrooman on January 22, 1943, in Vancouver, British Columbia. Kathleen and her family moved to the Port Albert area when she was a young child. As a teenager, her family moved to Corunna, Ontario, where she met and later married her husband, Bruce Knight. In September 2020, Bruce and Kathleen celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Kathleen was a loving and supportive mom to her two children Angie Barrese and Paul Knight, and was a wonderful mother-in-law to Mike and a special mom friend to Jennifer MacIntyre. Kathleen’s favourite people in her life were her three grandchildren: Sophia Barrese, Jesse Knight, and Shane Knight. She loved being a grandma and treasured the time she and her grandkids spent together. We are blessed to have had the opportunity to have made many family memories over the years and will cherish these in the days to come.
Kathleen and her siblings enjoyed a lifelong friendship, and she will be missed by her sister Janet Smith and her husband, John; her brother Bryden Vrooman and his wife, Diane; and her brother Murray and his wife, LeeAnn Brehler. Kathleen is also survived by her brother-in-law Bob Knight and his wife Vicki; her sister-in-law Betty Wellington and her husband Richard, as well as Mary and Norm King. Kathleen was also an aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was a kind and generous person who ensured no one was ever alone for a holiday meal. She was a good friend to many and always enjoyed playing bridge, going for lunch, and visiting a garden nursery or tearoom with her friends. Kathleen loved to travel, and she was always up for a day trip or outing.
Kathleen lived with cancer for many years, but she did not wish for it to define who she was and certainly did not want it to limit how she lived her life. Many have supported Kathleen to live her best life. Thank you to Dr. Billy, Chris, Patty, Carolynne, and Gemma for your years of love and support. We are grateful to Dr. Yoshida, Dr. Lam, and their oncology teams, who assisted Kathleen to live many great years after her initial diagnosis. We are appreciative of Dr. Greensmith, Amanda, Christine, Chris, and the Palliative Team for their care and fond attention. Special thanks to Nicole, who made it possible for Kathleen to stay in her home as long as she did and for providing comfort to our entire family.
To honour Kathleen’s life and to celebrate her generous spirit, we encourage you to complete an act of kindness to brighten the day for others. If you are able and wish to, please consider donating in Kathleen’s memory to Noelle’s Gift to support children and families in need of everyday essentials or to Bluewater Health to the Palliative Care or Oncology Units to support ongoing patient care.
Cremation has taken place and a committal service will occur at a later date.
