Heather McBride nee Hall

Died suddenly, but peacefully, on April 28, 2021.
Heather is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Barry, her son David (Sarah Robertson, stepdaughters Fenna and Bella), and her daughter Lisa (Wade Boroff, sons Scott and Matthew). Predeceased by her parents Jack Hall and Angela (nee Donnelly).
Always the life of the party, and often the organizer of her parties, Heather started the good times rolling while an education student at Macdonald College in the 1960’s, which is where she met Barry. Following Macdonald College, Heather enjoyed an impactful career as an educator. She began teaching at Vivian Graham Elementary School, and following a 12-year hiatus from teaching to raise her two children, Heather returned to the classroom for a lengthy career at many Lakeshore/Lester B. Pearson Schools including Edgewater Elementary School, Beacon Hill Elementary, Dorset Elementary, Evergreen Elementary, Forest Hill Elementary, and finally returning to Evergreen until her retirement. Heather was a master teacher, loved her profession, and was always willing to go the extra mile for her students or her colleagues. Heather was that teacher you wanted on your staff or educating your child (or being your mom).
Heather volunteered, extensively and relentlessly, when her children were young. Home & School President, Sunday school teacher, involvement with Pincourt soccer tournaments, fighting for reliable water in the town, or passionately participating and organizing with the “No” side in 1980; Heather was ready to roll up her sleeves and fight the good fight.
In her retirement Heather kept busy with tutoring, spending lots of time with her grandchildren, continuing to beat Barry on the golf course, traveling to Surfside Beach (SC), and staying close and connected to her special friends, the BT Fan Club, whose friendship and support she cherished so deeply. Blessed with countless friends, Heather truly valued her strong and meaningful relationship with Marilyn and Stephanie, the sisters she never had.
Heather was proud of the notes and calls she would receive from former students who often said having her as a teacher changed their lives. Heather was a great example of the difference a person can make if they are committed to and passionate about their profession. Her children proudly try to live those same values that were taught and modelled to them early in their lives by the best teacher they could have had.
Given the unfortunate COVID-19 situation, the family will not be holding a service at this time. When life gets back to “normal”, a party will be planned to honour Heather and to celebrate her passion for life. In lieu of flowers, Heather would have wanted you to buy books for your children, your grandchildren, or a local school. Please get young people reading! Her family would also ask those who knew Heather to consider a donation to The Friends of the Pointe Claire Library – a library which helped fill her classrooms with books on a weekly basis for much of her teaching career.
Special thanks to the caring and supportive teams in the palliative care department at the Lakeshore General Hospital (specifically the nurses of 4 South and the lovely Dr. Chen), the Teresa Dellar Palliative Care Residence who gave her the beautiful and peaceful last day she would have wanted, and finally special thanks to her wonderful GP Dr. Remi Chehade who went above and beyond to help her family through this trying time.
