Yvonne Goodland
October 26, 1941 – December 06, 2020
It’s with heavy and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife, Yvonne Goodland (nee Jordan). After a brief illness, she left us December 6, 2020 to greet in heaven her sisters Patsy Crane and Delores Wall, her parents Jim and Madge Jordan, dear brother-in-law Art Goodland, and her Lord and Saviour.
Yvonne was a shining light to all who knew her. Lover of life, laughter and especially her family. A social butterfly with an infinite capacity for love. She will be forever remembered for the passion she threw into everything – she was a force to be reckoned with! Yvonne was happiest puttering in her garden, she had a special magic with flowers and loved tending her little vegetable garden. She gifted all of us with endless crocheted quilts and slippers, made with
love. Yvonne adored children most of all. She raised three girls of her own and provided care for
countless others over the years. In recent years she enjoyed the company of her grandchildren, she delighted in watching them grow and celebrating their accomplishments.
Yvonne will be with us every day… We will think of her whenever we see roses, hear traditional Newfoundland music, enjoy her recipes we love and make ourselves, like Nanny’s chicken wings. We will think of her when we take our fun facies – Yvonne’s term for selfies, which is quite frankly much better – thanks Mom! She loved St. Patrick’s Day immensely, However Christmas will forever be Yvonne’s holiday, hence her nickname “Elf”! This Christmas will be difficult for us. But we will all be together, and we will honour her memory as she would have wanted.
While our sadness at this moment feels bottomless, we will be eternally grateful that we had Yvonne in our lives. She enriched all of our lives and we are better people for having known her. Her kindness and generosity will be her legacy. She leaves to grieve, her loving husband of 56 years, Cliff, daughters Mona, Yvette and Pam and son-in-law Aiden Mitchell, grandchildren Gavin and Nicola Ruggles and Meeki Goodland. Also to grieve, sisters-in-law Pearlie Chalk and Betty Goodland (John Gough) as well as a wide circle of nieces, nephews and close friends. In particular we would like to express our gratitude to David and Caroline Newhook for the incredible love and support they have always shown Yvonne and Cliff, especially during this challenging time. We would like to thank the staff of Eastern Health, Health Sciences Center, ICU for their wonderful compassion and loving care towards Yvonne. Also kind thanks to the Basilica Church community of which Yvonne was a proud member, and which provided great love and support to her in her faith.
Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, visitation and funeral details to be determined. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations may be made in Yvonne’s name to the Basilica Cathedral.
