Obituary of Wilma Okerman
June 5, 1926-January 2, 2020
Wilma passed away at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw on Thursday, January 2, 2020. She was born on a farm east of Congress, SK, and was the youngest of five children. When Wilma was ten she moved with her parents to Flat Valley, south of Goodsoil, in northern Saskatchewan. In 1944 Wilma joined the Army and was stationed in different parts of Ontario for one and a half years. After being discharged she went to Vancouver and spent the winter working there. In the spring she returned to the Congress area where she met her future husband, Alvin Okerman. Wilma and Alvin were married in 1948 and farmed the original Okerman family land until selling it in 1975, and then moving to Assiniboia. In 2002, Wilma and Alvin moved to Moose Jaw, living many years in Victoria Towers. The past few years Wilma resided at Crescent Villa. Wilma was predeceased by her husband Alvin (2008), parents William and Mae; brothers Alex, Raymond and Howard; sister Violet; brothers-in-law Algot, Swan, Gunnar and Les; sisters-in-law Roxy, Margaret, Yvonne, Joan and Vi. Wilma is survived by nieces Lois, Irene, Brenda, Eileen, Pat, Carolyn, Renie, Wendy, Rhonda; nephews Denis, Gordon, Len, Wallie, Ken and Lorne; several great-nieces and great-nephews, and her cousin Sharron. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Prairie Gardens in Congress, SK, with a Memorial Tea to follow at 1:00 pm at Parkview Funeral Chapel Lounge, 474 Hochelaga St West, Moose Jaw. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Prairie Gardens, Box 405, Assiniboia, SK, S0H 0B0. In living memory of Wilma, a memorial planting will be made by Jones-Parkview Funeral Services.
