Wilda May Lumbis 2020

Wilda May Lumbis
” Do not reject us in our old age; Forsake me not when my strength is spent.” Psalm 71:9
Our wonderful Mom and Nannie passed away on September 17, 2020 at Sunnyside Nursing Home. May was born at Saskatoon City Hospital on Jan 2, 1931. She attended King George School, Bedford Road Collegiate and obtained her teaching certificate at the Saskatoon Normal School. She taught at a one room school for a year before she married Gordon Lumbis. They were married 40 years before his death in 1991. May always loved children. She started a kindergarten in the basement of her home. Many children benefited from her teaching skills until kindergarten was added into the school system. From a young age, May was involved in the Girl Guide movement. As an adult, she was a leader and served as Saskatoon City Commissioner and in later years, she spent many happy times with her friends in the Trefoil Guild. May was also very active in St. Timothy’s Anglican Church. She taught Sunday school, was a willing volunteer for any project and was a loyal member of the December Circle which included many of her closest friends. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and craft. She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and friend – always ready and willing to do what it took to make those around her happy. She was a busy, happy woman with a book or craft project close at hand until the difficult progression of vascular dementia began. This disease took away our names and most of her memories of us but she always knew that we were someone she loved and that we loved her. May was a loving mother and mother-in-law to: Ken Lumbis and Carol Bromley-Meeres, Darlene and Rick Vermette, Laurie and Dave Renneberg, Allan and Kim Lumbis, Ron and Maureen Lumbis, Kristene and James Stephenson. She was so very proud of her 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The family would like to extend our thanks to Dr. Mick Jutras. His care over 30 plus years and especially when Mom’s dementia began to worsen was appreciated more than can be expressed. To Joanne and the caregivers at Prairie Springs Care Home, thank you for three years of care and support. And finally, our deepest gratitude and appreciation for all the wonderful staff that compassionately and lovingly cared for our Mom and supported us at Sunnyside Nursing Home with smiles and understanding of a very difficult disease. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Wilda May Lumbis 2020..
