Our Signature Services
For more than 110 years, Connelly-McKinley Funeral Homes has been committed to compassionately serve the families who trust their loved ones to our care. We listen to a family’s needs and then provide customized services to fulfill those needs.
Funeral services can and should be as unique as the life that is being celebrated. Over the years we have found that the most meaningful services were those that were most personal. There are many ways to add personal touches to funeral and memorial services, and our staff can arrange or assist you.
Whether you’re planning a funeral for a loved one or preplanning for yourself, the way we create beautiful memories is by starting with a story, passion or past time interest to provide inspiration.
We believe that every life is special; our accomplishments, the relationships we’ve had, our passions and each of our family traditions are uniquely our own.
Our Life Celebration Experts are dedicated to helping your family create a memorable gathering with personal touches and lasting memories so that you can focus on honouring your loved one and healing from their loss.
The difference you will experience at Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home is rooted in our deep belief in connecting with the hearts of the families we serve. By sharing the true story of your loved one with our staff, we learn how to help you share that legacy uniquely through ceremony and care.

Traditional Services
The tradition of burying our loved ones is time-honored and sacred. Burial gives us the peace of mind in laying them to rest, and gives us a place in the future to visit, decorate, and remember.
When your loved one has chosen to be buried, the ceremonies you design usually involve the casket being present. Traditions may be followed by a viewing and a funeral service followed by a graveside ceremony. Some families choose to change the order of ceremonies or make certain gatherings private. We are here to help you find the right options for your family and community to help you arrive at the perfect way to gather together.
Traditions are comforting to many people and have remained in practice because of the healing options they offer
A traditional service usually includes visitation and/or a wake where family and friends come to pay their respects and share memories with the family of the deceased with funeral services conducted at either the funeral home, church, graveside.
Traditional Services are usually of a religious or cultural nature and the casket is present at services
The service can be followed by a time of fellowship with a reception. All our facilities have spacious and fully equipped reception rooms to accommodate your specific needs.
When families choose a traditional burial we provide the setting for the visitation, help you find a place for your ceremony, our chapel or a local chapel, and we coordinate with the cemetery to plan the graveside ceremony. Graveside ceremonies can be just as personalized as the funeral ceremony and can include a sound system to play a favorite song, butterfly or dove release, a bagpiper or a veteran honor guard.

Distinctive Services
A distinctive service can be traditionally based but adding some personal touches that make it more tailored to your loved one and your family traditions. Most are not held in a church, but at the funeral home or any other place of your choosing.
They can also include visitation and/or a wake where family and friends come to pay their respects and share memories with the family of the deceased with funeral services to follow.
Distinctive Services are usually not of a religious or cultural nature and the casket is not necessarily present at services but certainly could be.
The service can be followed by a time of fellowship with a reception. All our facilities have spacious and fully equipped reception rooms to accommodate your specific needs.

Cremation Options
With the belief that every life deserves ceremony, we offer both classic and modern ceremonial options with cremation.
Our staff is knowledgeable in all faith traditions and customs so we can attend to each specific ceremony with detail and thoughtfulness. If you are not affiliated with a faith community, we have certified funeral celebrants to preside at your ceremony.
Many may think cremation is the easier option due to a common misconception that cremation is the service. Cremation is simply a disposition. You think burial, it means you’re being buried. Many don’t think of cremation that way.
Being cremated does not mean “being forgotten”, we see it as life being shared in the same way that we would follow other types of services but with the cremated remains of your loved one being the focal point rather than a casket.
Below are examples of ceremonies that families choosing cremation can have. If you have questions or your own ideas about how you would like your ceremony to look, we invite you to call one of our funeral arrangers to discuss the right event for you.

Cremation Facts
Cremation is a process by which the body is reduced to its basic elements, bone fragments. It is a misconception that they are ashes. The extreme heat of the retort also means that little to no traces of the cremation casket or container (regardless of the material) will remain to mingle with your loved one’s cremated remains
Cremation is not a final disposition process. It is another step in the memorialization process. After cremation takes place, families must make a choice for the final disposition of cremated remains.
Final disposition options include placing the cremated remains in a decorative urn to be displayed in the home, in a niche or columbarium, burying the cremated remains in the family’s preferred cemetery, or scattering the cremated remains.
Services before or following cremation are many and varied. You can have a traditional service or a unique event that exemplifies the life of your loved one. Green or Natural Burial in Edmonton
Many families are now asking about natural or green burials, primarily since the opening of the natural burial section at Rose Hill Cemetery
What is the Definition of a Green or Natural Burial?
We define green burial as a way of caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Natural burials are carried out with ecological friendly materials including the clothing, shroud or casket that allows the return to earth to have the least amount of impact on the environment as possible.
We recommend that if you are interested in a natural burial that you contact Rose Hill Cemetery to ensure that this will meet your needs. They have restrictions and stipulations that may affect your choice.
As they are currently the only cemetery in Edmonton offering this type of burial, this remains your only choice.
They have allocated a section specifically for green burials
You can find more information about this here
You can find the costs for all burial options here
From the Funeral Home standpoint, we work with each family individually to help them choose the best services and products for their needs. As this is a very personal choice and each family has their own reasons and thought process as to what they would want, we want to ensure we meet those needs.
We have a shroud and selection environment friendly caskets that reflect the Green Burial Society of Canada and the requirements of the cemetery.
