Walter J. Giovannini
1926-2020
Walter J. Giovannini of Kensington, PEI and formerly of
French River, PEI passed peacefully away at the Wedgewood Manor,
Summerside, PEI on Friday, December 11th, 2020, at the age of 94
years.
Pre-deceased by his loving wife Clara R. Giovannini (nee
Lundrigan) in 2007 as well as his siblings Leonice Donahue (William),
Alfred Giovannini (Dorcas), and brother-in-law William
Slaney.
Leaving to mourn his sister Blanche Slaney, nieces and
nephews: Craig Slaney (Patricia), Perry Slaney (Helen), Lynn Young
(Robert), Greg Donahue (Lynn), Mark Donahue (Leann), Bill Donahue
(Susan), Teri Goddard (Tim), Rita Ochs, Lisa Goodwin (Steve), Rhonda
Giovannini, Rosalind Martin (Paul) and Yvette Vukanovich (Peter). Also
leaving to mourn are Clara’s family the
Lundrigan’s (originally from St. Lawrence) and his long-time
family friend Enid MacKay and her extended family. He also leaves to
mourn a large circle of friends and great nieces and great
nephews.
Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Wedgewood
Manor for the loving care he received. Their comforting care is second
to none.
Walter was born in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland on October
23rd, 1926, son of Gregory and Elizabeth
Giovannini (nee Edwards). He married Clara in 1952 and moved to
Montreal to work with Sunoco Oil. He worked there for over 25 years
and shared a remarkable life with Clara and their beloved dogs
camping, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, and travelling all over North
America. They retired to PEI in 1983 settling in French
River and wintered in Florida for many years. He was an avid golfer
and played well into his 80’s and enjoyed music, cards,
volunteering and socializing in the
community.
Resting at the Davison Funeral Home Kensington. Cremation has
taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, complete funerals
arrangements will be announced at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. James Parish
Cemetery Fund, Summerfield, PEI or to a charity of your
choice.
