Walter Albin ‘Wally’ Magdy
1931-2020
MAGDY, Walter Albin –
It is with heartfelt sadness that the children of
Walter Albin Magdy regret to announce the passing of their beloved
father. Wally passed surrounded by family in the Richmond Villa, St.
Peter’s NS, on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. Born August 7,
1931 to Michal and Aniela (Wolkowski)Magdy. Beloved husband of the
late Catherine (O’Handley) Magdy (d. 2014). Loving father of
John (Rose), Mississauga, Ont; Terry (Cynthia), Hammonds Plains, NS;
Scott (Rose), Hay Cove, NS; Marcie Bungay (Drew), North Sydney, NS;
proud grandfather of Katelin (Phil), Deidre (Chris), Kirsti (Matt),
Clare, Ryan, Nathan (Emma), Keely (Jason) and Adam (Michaela);
great-grandfather of Ava, Theo, Lila, Carl and Asa; cherished brother
to Agnes Wiwczaruk and Fran (Chuck) Xamin and brother-in-law, Bill
Nanchoff. Predeceased by sister, Beth Nanchoff; brothers, Stan, Edward
(Maye), Edwin (Vi) and brother-in-law, Joe Wiwczaruk. Will be sadly
missed by brother-in-law, Alan O’Handley (Judy);
sisters-in-law, Frances MacDonald, Margaret Spiers, and Marie
O’Handley and many nieces and nephews.
Wally and Kay started raising their family in Georgetown, Ont
where they operated M&M Taxi and a general store. In 1971,
Wally and Kay moved to Cape Breton where they operated Kay’s
Variety Store for 25 plus years. During this time, Wally was also a
School Bus Driver for over 30 years for the Richmond County School
Board as well as serving as a School Board Member. Wally was an active
community member, supporting local sports activities and a founding
member of the District 10 Volunteer Fire Dept.
Special thanks to the staff of the Richmond Villa for their
exceptional care and compassion. Visitation for Wally will be from 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, January 17, in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral
Home, 26 Centennial St, St. Peter’s. Funeral mass will be 11
a.m. on Saturday, January 18 from Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church,
Johnstown with Father John Yake officiating.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday August
22, 2020 at 3 p.m. in Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery,
Johnstown.
Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart
Parish Cemetery Fund or to a charity of one’s choice. Words
