Obituaries For Verna Louise Hockey
October 19, 1935 – November 18, 2020
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Verna Hockey on November 18, 2020 at the age of 85 at Prairie Lake Seniors Living due to complications from a series of strokes.
Over her lifetime Verna had a variety of jobs and interests. She took flying lessons, spent time as a teacher, a baker, a bookkeeper, and a flower and craft store owner. Her last job was Manager of Pioneer Lodge (seniors housing) in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Verna enjoyed being the Director of the Family History Library at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helping others to find their ancestors. She had many jobs and callings within the church that she enjoyed.
Verna is predeceased by her husband, Gordon Hockey.
She will be sadly missed by her two children, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brothers, sisters and friends.
Verna’s family would like to thank the staff at Prairie Lake Seniors Living (especially those of the 2nd and 4th floors) for her daily care for her years at the facility.
Her family would also like to thank Doug, Hannah, and the staff at Bear Creek Funeral Home for their kindness, compassion, and the care of loved ones.
A Celebration of Verna’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Friday 27, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. Due to COVID restrictions attendance is by invitation only. For family and friends unable to attend the service a livestream on Bear Creek Funeral Home YouTube Channel will be available (link below).
