M. Vera’s Obituary
ISLAND EAST RIVER – It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of M. Vera Edwards of Island East River, announce her passing on Friday, August 21, 2020 at the age of 93, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Diamond, Pictou County, on January 9, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Bessie (Holmes) MacKenzie. Vera raised 12 children and when the last one started school, she became a rural mail driver, a job she loved. She delivered mail throughout Pictou County for 25 years. In retirement, she would still deliver mail if called upon. Vera enjoyed reading, going to yard sales and flea markets. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and their families.
Surviving are sons, Sandy, Loch Broom; Fred (Simone), Madigan River; Mike (Nola), Westville; Doug, Eureka; Kimball, New Glasgow and Leonard (Ollie), Westville; daughters, Gloria (Dan) Duff, Nanaimo, B.C.; Rhonda (Sonny) MacDonald; Foxbrook; Thelma Edwards, New Glasgow; Indira (Charlie) Yorke, Stellarton; Nicky Caine, Pictou; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; brother, Allister MacKenzie, River John; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Henry “Bill” Edwards; son, Will Edwards; grandsons, Glenn Edwards and Anthony Edwards; sister, Mary Langille.
A celebration of Vera’s life will be held at a time and place to be announced.
