Valenta Elfriede Margarete nee Sorger April 5

There was only one Elfie Valenta and on April 5th she left this earth leaving a great hole in the hearts of those who loved her. Elfriede Margarete Sorger was born in Leoben, Austria in 1931. She worked hard all of her life beginning in her grandmother’s tobacco shop, then in the hospitality industry and as a cosmetologist. In 1952 she married the love of her life, Joseph Valenta, after joining him in Argentina. Coming to Montreal in 1959, she continued to dedicate her life to her family as well as helping to build the family business, Cercast/ Vestshell, a world class investment casting foundry.
She was an elegant woman of many talents, a world traveler, and a doting friend to all animals, but her true calling was creating a home and caring for everyone in it. She was a woman with an intellectual curiosity, strong work ethic, impeccable standards, and a heart capable of boundless love and sacrifice for her family. Her willingness to care for those she loved was limitless and her ability to comfort was unmatched. She was an accomplished baker, gardener, seamstress, and master of most crafts.
In later years, having more time for herself, she found great joy in sharing adventures with a group of close friends, traveling, skiing, and collectively celebrating life events. She never lacked for social engagements because she was a wonderful guest, arriving with gifts from her oven then regaling those gathered with tales of her life’s adventures. She also generously volunteered her time at the Chateau Ramezey Museum, the Montreal Children’s Hospital and as a Foster Grandparent. Despite a full schedule, she always had time for her grand and great grandchildren. She was her happiest being Oma and Urli to them while sharing Austrian traditions, cuisine, and culture.
She was predeceased by her son, Heinz, her husband, Joseph, and her brother, Gerhard, she is survived by her sons, Kurt and Frank, and their wives, Heidi and Natalie, respectively, and grandchildren, Fredrick Valenta and wife Megan, Dustin, Eva, Paloma, and Marlena Valenta, and great grandchildren, Emma and Molly Valenta.
In observance of social distancing requirements, there will not be a funeral service. Her wishes were to be cremated and released from a mountain top into the natural environment that she loved so much.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Le Musée du Chateâu Ramezay (280 rue Notre Dame est, Montreal, Qc H2Y 1C5).
