Obituary of Thomas Charles Beattie
BEATTIE – Thomas Charles of Valleyview Home passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Monday, September 28, 2020 at the age of 81. Until recent years, he lived his entire life on the same property in the Redan Street/Balaclava Street neighborhood of St. Thomas. Son of the late James A. and Elizabeth Beattie, he was also predeceased by his much loved wife, Elizabeth and their cherished daughter Samantha as well as his only sister Patsy Ann Dallas. For many years he was a skilled automotive body mechanic at Elgin Crash Service. Sometime after joining the Valleyview Home community, Tom remarked that his life had “expanded; almost like having family again.” He derived satisfaction from assisting others when he could do so. Appreciation is conveyed to those who provided understanding, companionship and kindness to Tom, particularly during difficult times in recent weeks. Due to Covid 19 restrictions and consistent with Tom’s wishes there will be no public funeral or visitation. Cremation has taken place and the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) has been entrusted with all arrangements. Those wishing to consider a special gesture of remembrance may make a donation to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice which would be gratefully acknowledged. Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.sjfh.ca
