It is with great sorrow that we announce Stan Turner beloved companion, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020.
Stan was the second son of Queenie Mae and James Turner from England. He grew up in the West End of Winnipeg with his brothers, Leslie, Ron and Robert (Bob). He married Evelyn White in 1952 and together they have three children – Brian, Kim and Vanessa.
Stan lived an interesting and long life and will be remembered for his sense of humor, strong work ethic and his belief in giving back to the community which included serving as Commercial Director/Western Canada for the Canadian Real Estate Association.
He achieved his FRI (Fellow Real Estate Institute of Canada) in 1980, which led to him serving as a Director on both the Calgary and National boards over the years. He was a Founding Member/Officer of Calgary Association of Industrial Realtors (CAIR).
He thoroughly enjoyed his time as a Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) instructor passing along his knowledge and keen interest in Industrial Real Estate, Industrial Leasing and how to work that darned Financial Calculator.
Stan was an Honorary Executive Member of the Calgary Executive Association/International and was an active member and Past President of the Airways Business Association.
Active member and past president of the Beltline Community Association from May 1999 to Spring 2001 during which he published the community newspaper. Stan was instrumental in turning the association around. Working along with Alderman Sue Higgins, he worked hard to save the Memorial Park Library. He was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee medal in 2003 presented by Colleen Klein, nominated by MLA Harvey Cenaiko. He did all this while being President/Owner of S.S. Turner Real Estate Corporation from 1979 – 2012.
Stan started in real estate in Winnipeg in 1967 selling residential properties. He quickly moved into a management position with one of the largest real estate firms in Winnipeg in the early 70s, Aronovitch and Leipsic. Stan led the way to Calgary in 1976 by accepting a position as Western Canada Regional Real Estate Manager with Canada Trust which saw him overseeing real estate operations in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
As Broker/Owner of S.S. Turner Real Estate, Stan owned and operated a Century 21 and a Realty World franchise in the 1980s, but he gradually concentrated on the commercial/industrial side of real estate and conducted most of his business in the north east sector of Calgary.
Prior to his career in real estate Stan showed his self-starter attitude, strong work ethic and independent spirit by owning and publishing several weekly newspapers in both Winnipeg and small towns in southern Manitoba; he most enjoyed his time spent establishing and publishing the Beausejour Beaver.
Stan was a lifelong learner, enjoyed meeting and interacting with people and had a soft spot for animals and nature.
While saddened, we are uplifted by memories of his many stories, his kindness, his generosity and his love of family and friends.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Brian Turner, Kim Turner (Robert Kodak) and Vanessa Turner (Terry Brooke); grandson, Lee Turner Kodak; brother, Robert Turner; special friend and companion, Cindy Graham; and Cindy’s daughter, Deb Graham.
Stan leaves behind memories of a life well lived and a man well loved.
