Pretty, Shirley Jean (nee McCoy)
December 16, 1940 – April 8, 2020
After a valiant fight against a sudden illness, Shirley passed away on April 8th. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Arnold Pretty. She was a loving and generous mother to her four boys and their wives; Barry (Karen), Ron (Lorraine), Kevin (Debbie),and Terry (Rhonda). She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Chelsea (Matt), Caylea, Jennifer (Mike), Thomas, Trevor, Collin (Laryssa), Amanda (Alex), Megan (Grant), Andrea and 4 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Marion Argue (Dave), predeceased by her parents, Wesley and Jean McCoy and siblings; Betty Crabb, Thomas, Lloyd, Allan and Ken. Shirley and Arnold loved to travel and crossed the globe on many exciting adventures. They were often joined by their dear traveling companions, Al and Brenda Desroches, who also shared many years with them camping at White Lake. Her White Lake friends were Shirley’s second family and she loved them dearly. Shirley spent countless hours volunteering in the community. She was involved for many years with the Stittsville Legion, serving as President of the Ladies’ Auxiliary; was Treasurer of the Stittsville Friendship Club, where she met her dear friend, Douglas McCrady; and was active in the Stittsville United Church. Her dedication and energy will be greatly missed. The Pretty family would like to thank the nurses of the ICU and ACE unit at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their dedicated and gentle care for Shirley. They were a great comfort at a time when her family could not be there for her. Barker Funeral Home. A private family burial was held at the Stittsville United Church. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when we can all share in a big hug, Shirley would not have it any other way.
