Shilvock, Darren Charles
Darren Shilvock passed away at his home in Kimberley on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the age of 48.
Born in Meaford on May 18, 1971, Darren was the third child and cherished son of Ray and Dianne (nee Ellis) Shilvock. He grew up in Kimberley, dirt biking and skiing the hills that he loved so much. He spent many hours at the family cottage at Lake Eugenia, honing his water skiing and wakeboarding skills. As he didn’t really like getting wet, he perfected the art of starting on the dock and ending on the beach. Darren and Lori married and started a life together on Gramma Margaret’s farm on the west side of the valley. They were blessed with two beautiful children, Ella and Will. Darren loved being a Dad. He knew how fortunate he was to have them in his life and never stopped being proud of them. He enjoyed taking them to their sporting activities, riding the trails on the family ‘side by side’, family vacations and spending time at the cottage.
We know that he treasured his children and didn’t want to leave them but his disease took away his choices. His disease was just as insidious and deadly as cancer, while being far more difficult to diagnose, treat, and even discuss. While his death leaves us all feeling raw, struggling for understanding, endlessly questioning how and why this could have happened, we must remember that he was a victim of his disease, an emotional cancer. He no doubt is as grieved as we are that his unwanted death has caused so much pain, but no doubt too, he asks for our continued love, affection, and especially for our understanding. His death does not define him. We must remember his beautiful smiling face at his happiest moments.
We hope that he is now at peace, sitting at Gramma Margaret’s kitchen table, having a bowl of his favourite tomato soup and updating her with stories about his beloved children. Darren’s kind and gentle soul will be forever remembered and forever missed. He was truly one of the good guys.
Darren will forever be loved by his daughter Ella and son William, and by his parents Ray and Dianne. He will be forever remembered by Lori. Darren will always be the treasured baby brother to Janice and Tracey, dear brother in law to Mike, and loving uncle to Cadence and Silas. He will be remembered fondly by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and their families.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service of committal and interment will be conducted at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery. A celebration of Darren’s life will take place in the near future when family and friends can safely gather. Details for this will be announced as soon as they are available.
