Selma’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the families of Selma Dorcas Combden nee Hillier announce her passing at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility in Corner Brook, NL, on Saturday, March 28th, 2020 at the age of 73 years.
Selma Dorcas was born in St. Anthony on June 2, 1946 to George and Violet Hillier of Main Brook, NL.
Selma gave her heart to the Lord at an early age. She taught a Sunday school class and did her part to help with the music during church services and was faithful in her service to her Lord and Saviour.
After completing grade eleven; she moved to Corner Brook where she married and raised three children: Sharon, Keith & Carla.
Selma lived a very stressful life but, as a woman of faith, she quickly learned to fully depend on God for His strength and peace to cope with the circumstances of her life.
In June 2004, she was diagnosed with dementia and was placed in the Deer Lake Manor where she resided for the next eight years.
In May 2013, her stage of dementia had progressed to the point that she was transferred to the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home. She remained there until she peacefully passed into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2020.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children, Sharon Hollahan, Keith (Maria) Hollahan and Carla Combden; five grandchildren, Kathleen Farrell, K. J., Cornelius, Samuel and Alison Hollahan; brother, Pastor Guy (Althea) Hillier; sisters, Stella (Reginald) Russell and Ada (Michael) Mastin; a large circle of nieces and nephews, and her two best friends, Wavey Stratton and Ann Guillage; as well as, many other relatives and friends.
Selma was predeceased by her parents, George and Violet Hillier; brother, Douglas Hillier; sister, Victoria (Patrick) Saunders; grandson, Jacob Hollahan; niece, Marlene Russell; nephews, David Mastin and Farron Saunders.
A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020, at 2:00 pm, from the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, on Bennett Ave, Deer Lake, NL, with Pastor Jeffrey White officiating with the burial to follow at the Deer Lake Interdenominational Cemetery on Wight’s Road, Deer Lake, NL.
The funeral service will be lived streamed through the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church’s Face book page.
