It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ross Allin at the age of 64. He was surrounded by his loving family at home in Barrie, on December 9th, 2020, after a valiant 14-month battle with cancer. Ross is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sheila Allin (nee Duncan), daughters Rachael Allin (Dan Jannis) and Justine Allin. Lovingly remembered by his twin sister, Cathy Kaptyn (Henry). Predeceased by his father, John Allin and mother Ishbel Allin (nee Aird) Ross is deeply loved and missed by his nieces and nephews, Adam Duncan, Amanda Mura (Sandro), Brad Duncan, Samantha Kaptyn (Jon Kennedy) Alex Kaptyn (Lisa Wiele), Hayley Duncan, Robert Kaptyn (Sophia Staz) and great nephew, Kenneth Duncan. Ross is fondly remembered by the Duncan family as “Rental Ross” and will be dearly missed for his laughter and humour at the Duncan family gatherings by his brothers-in-law, Glenn Duncan (Merle), Neil Duncan (Marie), Robin Duncan, and Keith Duncan.
In the early days of living in Barrie, Ross started working at the Innisvale Cemetery and Crematorium as a seasonal worker but soon moved to the position of Cremation Operator before rising to the position of Manager. Ross made the decision to leave the cemetery business and work as a partner in the landscaping business, Creative Gardens & Waterscapes which was started by his wife, Sheila. With Ross’s influence the business grew from landscape maintenance to hard scape installations. When the time was right, Ross left the landscape business in Sheila’s capable hands and pursued a career in real estate where he developed many friendships with associates as well as clients. People found Ross easy to talk to and everyone enjoyed his quick wit and humour.
Ross involved himself in many volunteer projects in the community. Ross sat on the Board of the Landscape Ontario, Georgian Lakelands Chapter and volunteered in the” Build for Gilda’s” as well as helping with the landscaping of the Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka Clubhouse. Ross could also be found helping out in many of the Georgian Lakeland Chapter events, including a food drive for the Barrie Food Bank. Ross was also involved in toy and food drives, as well as manning the telephones during a telethon in Toronto during his Real Estate career.
Above all, Ross loved his family. His daughters, Rachael and Justine were his pride and joy, the light of his life. Ross loved his son-in-law, Dan Jannis, like a son.
Ross will be missed by many and has left us all too soon.
Special thanks to Dr. Stuart Murdoch, Dr. Dawn Ng and the entire nursing and support staff of the RVH Cancer Care Program along with gratitude for the coordinators of the North Simcoe LHIN and the nurses from Bayshore Home Care for their compassionate care of Ross and for helping his family get through this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place along with a private family service. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations to Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka or Hospice Simcoe would be appreciated.
