Obituary
Rodney King
Little Bras d’Or
With heartfelt sadness, we the family announce the sudden passing of Rodney King, age 87, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Halifax Infirmary in Halifax.
Born in Florence on July 6, 1933, Rodney was the daughter of the late Hugh and Catherine (Dickson) MacIntosh. Rodney was employed in her early years by Canada Post in Florence, retiring after more than 25 years of service. She was a lifetime member of the former Wilson United Church in Florence.
Rodney cherished her early memories of growing up on Queen Street in Florence, the 9th child in her family of 17 children, in addition to the many friendships in the community which lasted her entire life. Over her lifetime, she and her husband Ralph enjoyed many pastimes together, including CB Radio Club Jamborees, snowmobiling, trailering, horseracing and specifically the annual trek to PEI for Old Home Week. Many people over the years were the beneficiaries of Rodney’s home cooking and baking. Many Sundays Rodney enjoyed the company of her sisters and brothers for supper followed by stories and laughter. She took great pride in her dining room table events. Of course, the exception would be if Tiger Woods was in the hunt for yet another PGA victory, in which case, all supper thoughts were off. For a lady who never held a club in her hand, her keen interest in the golf game was amazing.
Rodney is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph King, also her son Grant (Helen) King, Bedford, her grandsons Erin (Amy), Cole Harbour, Brett, Dartmouth, great-grandchildren Josie and Willard. Also surviving is her sister Ruby Squarey and brother Thomas MacIntosh, both of Sydney Mines, sisters-in-law Rose MacIntosh, Oakville, ON, Sheila MacIntosh, Burton, NB, Mae Todd (her best friend), Dartmouth, Marion Savolainen, Ottawa, her brothers-in-law Chess ton, Sydney Mines, Bunny King, Bras d’Or.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Olga, Lois, Margaret, Christina, Althea and Mae Audrey and her brothers Hugh Jr., Everett, Alvin, Robert, Melrose, John, Daniel and Donald, father and mother-in-law Harry and Florence (Clifford) King.
At Rodney’s request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private graveside committal will take place at a later date under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to The Club Inclusion, 2185 Quinn Street, Halifax, NS, B3L 3E5 or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.wjdooley.com.
