Obituary of Robert Clayton Wood
Wood – Robert Clayton “Bob”
The Wood family sadly announces Bob’s death at the North Bay Regional Health Center on Sunday December 6, just three days before his 84th birthday. Bob died peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. For the past 46 years he has been the beloved and cherished husband of Beverley (nee Robinson). The proud and loving father of Jon, he had a special place in his heart for his grandson Owen. The last of his generation, he was predeceased by his parents Clayton and Hazel Wood, formerly of South River, his brother John (late Joan), and sister Gwen Holmes (late Bruce). Bob’s career with the ONR spanned 39 years. He retired in 1993 as a supervisor in the Treasurer’s Department. In his younger years Bob was a gifted figure skater. He was a natural on the ice and the dance floor. For many years he and Bev danced both with groups and over the years at every opportunity they had. He was a life-long swimmer, swimming almost every day, either in Eagle Lake or Trout Lake. Bob liked to walk and walked wherever he could. Always active he took up roller blading after retirement and will be remembered by many as a regular roller bladder on the Kate Pace Way. A man of many interests he was also a talented photographer. He was well loved and cherished by his family, who cared for him tirelessly throughout his struggle with Alzheimer’s. In keeping with his wishes his body will be cremated. The Wood family will receive friends at Martyn Funeral Home on Friday December 11 from 12 noon until time for a memorial service to be held in the chapel at 2:00pm. In accordance with the current pandemic restrictions imposed by the Bereavement Authority of Ontario please call the funeral home at 705-472-8810 to confirm a time for visitation or attendance at the service.
