Obituary of Robert Allison Baird
It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” Baird announces his passing on June 9th, 2020. As was his character in life, Bob left quietly and peacefully with his beloved wife Judy (Bright) Baird by his side.
Born on January 16th, 1947 in Lorneville, NB, Bob was the son of the late James and Leona (Ferguson) Baird of Lorneville, NB. Bob graduated from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Regina Depot, on September 5th, 1967 and proudly spent 23 years serving the public while stationed in Halifax, Bridgetown, Digby, Antigonish, Kentville and again in Digby. Bob received the Commanding Officer’s Commendation in 1974 for his courage under fire while apprehending two suspects. After retiring from the RCMP, Bob pursued a career in the restaurant business before joining the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, Sheriff Services as a Deputy Sheriff for 12 years. Upon retirement from Sheriff Services, Bob moved back to his boyhood home of Lorneville and continued his career with the Commissionaires from 2012 to 2019 in Saint John, NB.
Bob’s quiet, generous personality was appreciated by all. He had a well-developed sense of humour that relied heavily on puns. He was a clever writer who enjoyed crafting poems for special family and friend events. Beyond the first love of his family, Bob was passionate about antique cars, music, and playing guitar. He loved hockey, both playing the sport all through his life and watching his favorite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs with his family. Bob loved physical activity and was often seen walking,
running, or cycling around the community.
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Judy, daughters Michelle (Jason) Reddin, Barb (John) Turcotte, his sister, Jean (Frank) Anderson. Bob is greatly missed by his grandchildren, Liam and Callum Reddin, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home (111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB) (634-7424) A private family service will take place in the Brenan’s Chapel, Interment will follow in Lorneville Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Ceremony for all family and friends will be announced at a later date. Donations can be made to the RCMP. Online condolences may be placed at www.BrenansFH.com.
