We are saddened to share with you the news of the death of a much loved and faithful, longstanding parishioner of St. Paul the Apostle Anglican Church, Robert Luscombe, who passed into the peace of Christ last evening, April 24th at home. Robert recently celebrated his 100th birthday. Robert was predeceased by his wife Norma. Robert is the loving father of David Parish Administrator, Barbara (Douglas), and Elaine (Robert) and grandfather of Robert, Kristin, Jennifer and Matthew and great-grandfather of Jordan.
Robert has been part of the St. Paul’s community since 1956 when the family moved from Guelph to Rexdale. In recent years, Robert has been unable to get out to church due to health, and so our church went to him to visit and take communion. The Luscombe family was involved in helping to build the Church of St. Paul the Apostle and both Norma and Robert were servants of the Lord at St. Paul’s. Robert ran the Sunday School, which in the early years had over 400 children in it. He was a church warden, property chairman, and involved in many other ministries through the decades. He and his wife Norma attended the 9:00 am service virtually every Sunday. Robert, Norma and all of the Luscombe family were involved for decades in various ministries at St. Paul’s, and of course, David still is. As David said about his father, he was a good father, never raised his voice, he was gentle, he led a good life of doing God’s work and he loved his church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Newediuk Funeral Home, Kipling Chapel. A private family service followed by interment at Glendale Cemetery will be held in the coming days. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at St. Paul the Apostle, once the gathering restrictions related to Covid-19 are lifted. When the date is known, it will be shared with you.
Please keep the family in your prayers, David, Barbara, Elaine, the children of Norma and Robert, and keep in your prayers all family and friends who loved Robert. May Robert rest in peace. May light perpetual shine upon him. May he rise with Christ in Glory.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Paul the Apostle Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences at newediukfuneralhome.com
