Reta’s Obituary
RAFUSE, Reta Augusta ~ Age 98, of Auburn, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2020, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born on April 17, 1921, in Garland, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Samuel Winfield and Stella Adelia (Hiltz) Gould. Our mother was the last surviving member of her family. In the Spring of 1946, Mother and her husband, Wilfred started their life together on the family farm in Windermere, Kings County. They had many good years together raising their children and growing strawberries and apples. She moved to Auburn in 1967 with her family as Wilfred’s health declined. She worked at Mid-Valley Motel in Middleton for many years. She loved her community of Auburn and took great pride in her home, where she lived for 47 years until moving to the Grand View Manor. Mother greatly enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens, especially her roses, tulips and marigolds. Mother was an exceptional cook and took great delight preparing meals and sharing them with her family. Her pies and egg tarts were incredibly delicious. She enjoyed playing cards (45’s) and loved listening to country music. Mother’s greatest source of joy and pride was her family, whom she loved unconditionally. She was a pillar of strength over the years for all of us. She will always be remembered as a loving Mother, Nanny and Great Nanny and will be greatly missed. Surviving are her children, Leo (Connie), Wolfville; and Greg (the late Judy), of New Minas; Wendell (Jane), Auburn; Garth (Kim), Kingston; Valda (Barry) Morse, Auburn; Kevin (Tanya), Kingston; grandchildren, Corey (Christy), Karen (Greg), Tressa (Henry), Stephanie (Corey), Brandon and Carson; great grandchildren, Kaylie, Hannah, Bui, Kiera, Landon, Olivia, Mila, Tyler and baby William; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred D. Rafuse; son, Willis LeRoy in infancy; brothers, Harry, Carl, Archibald and Clifford Gould; sisters, Nina Dodge; Cassie Daniels; Grace Bezanson. There will be no visitation. A private graveside service for members of her immediate family will take place in Berwick Cemetery, with Rev. Sarah Scott officiating. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Grand View Manor or Canadian Cancer Society. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Grand View Manor who cared for our dear Mother.
