Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Reid Edward Gosche on Sunday, September 27, 2020, at the age of 56. Reid fought with fierce courage and strength to conquer Kidney Cancer. He lived in Maple Ridge, BC for 10 years with his beloved wife Sandra and two amazing children Sophia and Mason.
He was born on August 28th, 1964, at the Royal Alex Hospital to parents Thomasina & Frank Gosche. He grew up and went to school there – excelling at many sports; a goalie for the Rio Terrace hockey team, a Wiley soccer forward, a heavy hitter in baseball, a curler, an excellent pool player, and a burley multi- talented football player. In High school, Reid dedicated himself to football, playing for the Jasper Place Rebels. After high school, he applied and was accepted to attend a training camp, earning a place in the NCAA Division 3 football league playing for the Screaming Eagles at the College of Siskiyous, in Weed, California. He played Offensive line and Centre, but mostly Guard. This eventually led him to play for the Canadian Junior Football League, Edmonton Huskies, where he started as a rookie during his first season, he was just 18. He was a powerful tough Centre, but also played on both the offensive or defensive line if needed. Reid was the “ultimate team player”, putting his team before himself.
After football, Reid turned his attention to work and a career. He spent many years in the glass industry, moving quickly from entry level positions to jobs serving commercial clients.
Reid was a fun-loving, selfless person who took care of everyone. He was a loyal friend to many. He was always the ‘life of the party’, and was someone who made an impression on people, wherever he was. He was a ‘larger than life’ personality and always ‘unforgettable’. It was these traits that led him to the hospitality industry, first as a partner in the Palace, a Calgary night club, and after that he started Stolli’s on Whyte Avenue in Edmonton. These ventures were highlights in Reid’s life.
Reid met the love of his life and married her on March 20th, 2004. Together, Reid and Sandra raised their two children, Sophia (16) and Mason (12) – his greatest legacy. Reid, Sandra, Sophia and Mason moved to BC in 2010. They settled down in Maple Ridge, where Sandra’s family resided. He worked for CP Distributors and enjoyed his position there as a Project Manager. Reid and his family loved camping, the lake, and were constantly being surrounded by family and friends. He lived large, loved to have fun, he loved to coach football, enjoyed fast cars and was especially fond of old Rock & Roll, but also had an appreciation for all types of music.
Reid was the best and greatest of us, he filled the room with his giant sized heart and always created smiles where there were none. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. His love for his wife, Sandra and his children will never be forgotten.
Reid was predeceased grandparents Elsie & Emmett Gosche, Jerry James, Frank James and stepfather David Caulfield. Left to mourn his passing are parents Frank Gosche and Thomasina Caulfield(Gosche). He will be greatly missed by his sisters Lesley (Kelly) Bunn and Lanne Rice and their families. His wife Sandra, daughter Sophia and son Mason, extended family, many great friends and colleagues.
