Obituary of Ray Sweeney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ray at the Sault Area Hospital on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the age of 74 with his girls and Sonny Boy by his side. Beloved husband of Rosemarie “Posie” for 39 years. Loving Dad of Lisa (John), Tricia (Jason), Shelly and Christie (Ken). A Wise Grumpa of Casey, Jodie, Raymond, Rachel, Christina and Elizabeth. A fun-loving Great Grumpa of Jordan and Seth. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Angeline Sweeney. Caring brother of the late Robert, late Gloria (Carol), late John (Pat), Dan (Jane), Anna, Louise (late Bob), Mary (Gary), Rose (Bev), Brian (Suzanne) and Michael. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, who will miss his smile. Best friend and hunting buddy of Mike Oliver “Sonny Boy” (Tina). Dad always loved spending his time in the bush hunting or fishing on Achigan Lake or the Oba River. It was a piece of his heaven here on earth. Ray worked at Algoma Steel (Tube Mill) for over 35 years but never really retired as he always jumped at the chance to work when the phone would ring. He was a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus for over 20 years, dedicating his time to the community he loved. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie would be appreciated. A heartfelt thank you to the ICU staff at the SAH for the care and compassion shown to Ray and our family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
