Obituary
The family wishes to announce that R. David Morrell was promoted to Glory on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. He was born in Los Angeles, California on January 22, 1942 to the late Raymond and Lillie Marie (Hamm) Morrell.
David received his first Award Certificate from The Bible Commandos on June 3rd, 1947 for having accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour. He lived his entire life for the Lord, soaring now where Christ has led, Hallelujah. David got his Bachelor of Arts in 1963 from Pepperdine College in Pasadena, California. David was a computer scientist sought after by top corporations and think tanks for his rare and unique coding and analysis. He received many certificates for completing technical courses for the Computer Sciences Corporation, Univac Defense Systems Division and Radio Corporation of America. He once spent 6 months in Germany programming missile ships and went through The Panama Canal on a Navy Ship. He retired at 70 from Thomson Reuters Corporation in Philadelphia, PA. David enjoyed and excelled at individual sports. He was hard to beat at chess, ping-pong, golf and bowling. He once threw 15 strikes in a row and had claimed many trophies over the years from the different leagues he bowled in. He enjoyed taking photos (especially black and white) and developing them in a dark room. He would make slides and have family slideshow nights. He loved conversing through voice or Morse code to other Ham Radio operators all over the world as he was a licensed Amateur Radio Operator most of his adult life. He had a hankering for spicy foods and the challenge to find a sauce that he actually thought was hot. David loved music and had a special love for mellow jazz and blues. A talented man, he was an accomplished violinist and played in several orchestras. He loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.) with whom he performed live shows. He sang in choirs for years and often was the conductor. David met his wife Mary Rose Eastwood at a church outing in San Diego, California in 1962. They were married in Saint John, NB in 1963 and shared nearly 60 years of life together. David led by example; not given to any vices.
David is survived by his wife Mary Rose Morrell, their children; Martin (Naomi), Kevin (Nancy) and DeAnne Morrell as well as his brother, Richard (Paula) Morrell and several nieces and nephews. He is also remembered by his grandchildren; Korie, Brandi Rose, Joseph, Kristy-Lee, Douglas, Alicia and Bethany; great grandchildren; Adrian, Silas, Jude and Rowen.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation hours being held between 2-8 PM on Friday, February 28, 2020. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, February 29 at 2 pm. Interment will take place at Mispec Cemetery in the spring.
