Obituary of Peter Richard Reddekopp
Peter Richard Reddekopp was born September 22, 1936 in Acme, Alberta. He was the youngest of nine siblings who predeceased him. Peter grew up in Acme in a beautiful family home; he attended the old red brick school house from which he graduated in 1956. He then enrolled in a chemical engineering program at the University of Alberta but after two years changed his career path and transferred to the University of Calgary where he pursued his degree in education. During that time, he was able to live with and support his mother who was in failing health. After graduation Peter obtained a teaching position with the Three Hills School Division. He taught one year in Linden followed by a transfer to Acme School where he taught the sciences, math and physical education. During those years he was devoted to coaching baseball, volleyball and basketball. For two years he was Assistant Superintendent for the Three Hills School Division, followed by a three-year tour teaching in Ramstein, Germany for the Department of National Defence. Upon returning he spent years teaching in Carbon, Beiseker and Linden. After retirement from Golden Hills Regional, Peter taught adult education for ten years at Bow Valley College while enjoying a hobby buffalo farm. In 2006 he joined his wife in China to teach English to college students. Recently he taught a short time in Acme School and earned the distinction of being the second oldest teacher on contract in Alberta.
Peter married Peggy Boese in 1965 and they were blessed with a son, Darren Reddekopp, Cochrane, AB and daughter, Kelly Gray (Vern), Didsbury, Alberta. Grand children Evan, Mason and Sadie Gray were special in his life. Leona (Greg) Skriver and children Kaylee (Jason), Lauren (Logan) and Jamie; and Helena (Kurt) Ratzlaff and children Andrea, Rodney and Tyler were a treasured part of his family.
Peter passed away peacefully after a short illness at the Foothills hospital on June 12. He was blessed with longevity, good health and a 55-year marriage. Peter treasured his extended family,
many wonderful friends, adventures and good times.
