1939-2020
Quietly with family at her side, Nana passed away at home in Oakville on December 12, 2020 at the age of 81, following a short battle with cancer.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children mary duncan (John Brewer) and David Duncan (John Morgerson), grandson Matthew Longwell (Jenna), step granddaughters Jessica Brewer and Camilla Brewer, Shawna Ferguson, great-grandsons Brody, Evan, Lincoln and Ryan as well as cousins Pam Rock (Ed) and Sandra Evans. She will also be dearly missed by relatives and life-long friends in Windsor/Riverside, Bayfield and Oakville.
She was predeceased by her parents Dr. G.H. Shepherd and Mary Shepherd, her brother James Shepherd, her husband Dave Johnstone, and her grandson Alexander Longwell.
Penny was born and raised in Windsor and had lived in Oakville since 1974. She was a long time, active member of St. Aidan’s Church, both in Windsor and Oakville, where she sang in the church choirs and in the Oakville Choral Society. She was the recipient of the Order of Niagara and numerous Provincial Awards for volunteerism in the community and at Eastview Public School. Penny was a proud Nana to not only her grandsons and great grandsons but to their many friends as well.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when we can all gather safely.
Memorial Donations may be made to St. Aidan’s Church, 318 Queen Mary Drive, Oakville ON L6K 3L6 and in her memory we encourage thoughtful acts of kindness in everyday living.
