Pearl McNair
1921-2020
Pearl McNair (April 14,1921 to May 14, 2020)
–your destiny is eternal and your home is everlasting
heaven–Ernest Holmes
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Pearl G. McNair
(Bath, NB), who passed away peacefully at McNair Manor in Moncton, NB
on May 14, 2020 at the age of 99.
Pearl was born on April 14, 1921 in Limestone, Maine. Pearl was one of
seven children born to Sidney and Janie Giberson of Carleton county
and is survived by her younger sister Norma Tuff of Hillsborough, NB
(Robert). After graduating from high school in Bath, Pearl took the
opportunity to travel and stay with her Aunt Ruth and Uncle Allen
Holmes in Ypsilanti, Michigan. During her year there she did some
secretarial schooling and worked as a household helper. Upon her
return to Bath she attended teachers training in Fredericton, NB,
where she roomed with her lifelong friend Alice Blake. Life as a
teacher began in the rural schools around Carleton county. It was
there she met and married (April 23, 1943), the dashing young potato
inspector Lloyd McNair from Jacquet River, NB. Pearl and Lloyd enjoyed
76 wonderful years of marriage before his death at the age of 103 on
July 9, 2019. After a brief period of living in Fredericton and Nash
Creek, they bought their first home and spent 9 years in Bath.
Eventually in 1956 Pearl and Lloyd moved their growing family to
Andover, NB. There they raised their five children. Pearl operated a
kindergarten from her home and taught primary to grade six for many
years in Andover. She will be fondly remembered by many former
students. As well as teaching and raising a family of five, Pearl
pursued many interests in painting, sewing, quilting and crafting. She
was an active member of NB Women’s Institute, Women’s
Missionary Society and passionately served her church and God. Pearl
was kind to any one in need. Her home was always open to travelers,
visitors, pastors and missionaries, where you always could count on a
good home-cooked meal with Lloyd’s fresh garden produce. Pearl
loved to establish connections and relations. She found connections
and relatives from British Columbia to Colorado. In the 80’s
they had returned to Bath to live out their retirement years.
Pearl is survived by son Jim McNair of Ridgeway, ON (Shirley); son
Allan McNair of Sus, NB (Margaret); son David McNair of Moncton, NB
(Susan); son Charles McNair of Bath, NB (Melody); daughter Miriam
Farrell of West Vancouver, BC (Tony).
Pearl will also be greatly missed by her 17 grandchildren, 26 great
grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. They will always
remember her three solid meals a day, dessert, Skip-Bo, Boggle, Rook
and never winning a game of scrabble against Grandma! She will be
loving remembered by family, friends and loved ones.
Due to current world circumstances with Covid 19 and travel/gathering
restrictions, Pearl’s funeral will be held at a later date.
Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) in care
of arrangements.
Donations in Pearl’s memory may be made to Bath United Baptist
Church and Camp Shiktehawk. Online condolences for the family may be
