Obituary of Pauline Ruth Barkman
Pauline Woods Barkman was born to Winston and Una Woods on July 16, 1978 in Grande Prairie, Alberta. After a valiant three year battle against stage four cancer, she peacefully slipped away surrounded by her loved ones on May 28, 2020 at Westview Care Community in Linden, AB.
Pauline grew up on a homestead in the Peace River Country and attended Northern Lights Christian School, a little two roomed building. She took on various jobs, helping neighbors with livestock chores, babysitting, baking, cooking, and cleaning.
On June 22, 1997 she married the neighbor boy, Derek Barkman. They began life in the northland and in 1999 they relocated to Linden, Alberta. It was the absolute joy of her life to welcome three boys into their lives.
She was very talented with sewing, designing patterns, and spent endless hours at her machine custom sewing. Making many unique and beautiful quilts came easily for her and she created many homemade treasures to share with others throughout her life. She loved to be a taxi mom to soccer, baseball, and basketball games, helping at the Breakfast Club at school, wellness coaching many clients, and belonging to local Book and Breakfast Clubs. In the recent summers, many happy family times were had, and new friends were made in Sicamous, BC. Truly, her happy place.
Pauline will be remembered for her bright sparkly blue eyes and cheerful personality. People were drawn in by her gentle, infectious demeanor. She had a peaceful way about her, a deep faith that sustained her, and was always a very attentive and loyal listener.
Those who will forever cherish her memory are her husband, Derek Barkman, and sons, Colton James-18, Spencer Ray-15, and Dexter Stewart-13, her parents, Winston and Una Woods, Hythe, AB, siblings Kristol (Bevan) Toews, Hythe, AB, Twila Woods, Sylvan Lake, AB, James (Nicole) Woods, Spruce Grove, AB, Bonnie Woods, Castlegar, BC, Curtis (Amy) Woods, Dawson Creek, BC, her mother-in-law, Yvonne Froese Barkman, Abbotsford, BC, and brother-in-law Kevin Barkman, Mount Lehman, BC, and too many bffs to begin to mention. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Raymond Barkman.
Amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, a private funeral service will be held on June 1, 2020 at Linden, AB and laid to rest in the Acme Cemetery, Acme, AB.
Memorial donations in Pauline’s name may be made to Westview Care Community Palliative Care.
