Patrick Pat DeVere Smith Monday August 31st 2020

Patrick “Pat” DeVere Smith, Aug 22, 1945 – Born: Rose Hill, Barbados
August 31, 2020, Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, age 75.
Pat was a strong passionate man with a big heart! He will be sorely missed.
Pat was born at Rose Hill, in Barbados into a large family. At the age of 10 his family arrived in Canada. In 1990 Pat was thrilled to become a Canadian citizen.
He is survived by his wife Christine Roberta Levesque, and his children Edward Patrick Joseph Smith and Amber Nadette Smith, his grandchildren Boe Kimberly, Remy William and Poppy Claire Smith, his step-grandchildren Karl John Wilson and Jace Timothy Wilson; Sister Monica Rosita, Brothers – Horace Leon , Peter Ted , Jeffrey Ronald, David Michael and Terry Ian ; brothers-in-laws Joseph Levesque and Stephen Edward Levesque. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, 25 Great nieces and nephews (and growing). He is predeceased by his parents, George Clarence Coldridge Smith and Muriel Inez Rogers, two brothers John and Hal and sister Marguerite. Surviving Pat are brothers-in-law, Joseph Robert and Stephen Edward Levesque (m: Karen Steeves), and their two sons, Mark and Thomas. He is also survived by his children from his previous marriage – Robert, Michelle and Cheryl Smith – Crawford.
Pat contributed to his family and community in countless ways – he was a Scout Leader in Etobicoke with the Mighty 4th; a Defendo self-defense instructor; a member of IMPACT Wasaga, and since retirement he has gone out of his way to help others on his street with snow shoveling/grass cutting and caring for neighbours homes when they are away. Pat was a member of the Stayner Curling Club. Pat also loved The Blue Jays, jokes, ‘hot’ Barbados pepper sauce, Kelly and Ryan on TV, having fun, being friendly, playing cards and games, his backyard waterfall and the occasional glass of red wine!.
Over the years, Pat and family have had some wonderful vacations, including a lot of camping, the trip to Florida in a terrible snow storm that took 5 days (one way!), and great trip to London England, an Alaskan Cruise, a trip to Barbados with all his siblings and spouses, and many trips to the US (until Trump Interuptus). Pat worked as a bus driver, subway and streetcar operator, then Supervisor for the Toronto Transit Commission for 25 years and received the Award of Excellence. He retired in 2012, and has never looked back. He has truly enjoyed his retirement and the wonderful times he has had with his family, friends, and, most notably his grandchildren.
Pat’s final wish was to be out of hospital, removed from all drains and other medial equipment and to be at home to die. We made it home 
Pat will be interred at St. John’s Norway Cemetery in Toronto, at a later date.
