Norman John Fairbairn 2020

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Norman John Fairbairn just past his 94th year.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Beryl; children, Neil and Janet; grandchildren: Allison, Karen, Ainsley, Rebecca and Heather as well as his sister, Janice; sister-in-law, Delia and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Bruce and brother-in-law, Hardie.
Norman was born in La Tuque, Quebec on January 1, 1926. A graduate from Bishops University with his MSc in Chemistry from McGill University, he spent his career at General Foods. In Montreal he met Beryl and they married in 1955. Transfers took them to Cobourg and Toronto until – after retirement – the Rocky Mountains lured them west. Living in St. Albert since 1990, Jasper National Park was a favourite of Norman’s. Fly fishing on the Maligne River from opening day each August until late September was his passion. Building fly rods and tying flies, building model trains, photography in the mountains, and exploring the many hidden rivers kept him busy. Annual outings to test the Maligne River waters occurred over many seasons, where he taught his granddaughters to fly fish.
A Celebration of Life for Norman will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Connelly-McKinley, St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, AB. Join us in remembering Norman with pictures and tales.
A special thank you to the kind and caring staff at Youville Care Home, Unit 5.
