On December 26, 2020 Nina took the final big sleep (her words) after years of fighting with congestive heart failure. She enjoyed 92 years of family and friends. Nina was predeceased by her husband Emery; daughter Donna Elliott; sister Betty and brother Jim. She is survived by her daughters Betty Grudnizki of Edmonton; Judy (John) Martin of Regina; son-in-law Allan Elliott of Kelowna; her sister Doreen Stelter of Calgary. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Brian Martin and daughters Riley and Jude; Courtney (Darrell) Geiss and daughters Madilynn, Halle, and Katie; Amy (Steve) Brown and children Alexis and Cooper; Drew Martin and children Vada and Emery; Mark Elliott; Nicole (Jake) Pesta; and Jeff Elliott.
She will miss ringing in the New Year with her best friend Stella Mohr, who provided much comfort to Nina and support to Betty and Judy during her last days.
Nina grew up in Saint Boswells, SK but found her adult life as a hairdresser in Regina. This is where she met Emery and after marriage, they became a farm family at Tregarva. She was known for her delicious pies and tasty liver and onions. After the chores, she enjoyed her Homemaker (WI) meetings and attending her daughter’s 4-H achievement days and piano concerts.
In semi-retirement her and Emery spent several winters in the warm climate of Arizona. She kept fit with aqua size classes then enjoying coffee with friends after class. But, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She was fortunate to have four living close enough to walk over for celery sticks when they needed a break from their mom. She also loved visiting and babysitting the three Kelowna grandchildren and teaching them to do household chores while proving that she could deal with spiders with her bare hands.
Thereafter, she was blessed to know nine great-grandchildren. They all shared special moments, whether it was learning to fold clothes, making Jello or teaching her to feed a rabbit. They had to say final goodbyes through the window, but even that brought a last smile to her face.
The family thanks the staff at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for the special care Mom received in the final days of her life. In lieu of flowers, we request that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Nina Grudnizki December 26th 2020..
