Nécrologie
Nicholas Boutziouvis
(1927-2020)
Nick passed away peacefully at the General Hospital on Wednesday January 8th, surrounded by his family. Nick leaves behind a rich legacy of beloved family and friends, including his wife of more than 60 years, Tassia, adored children Themmy (Sam), Tasso and John, and daughters-in-law (daughters) Emily (Manolakos), Vivian (Balatsoukas) and Voula (Karabatsos). He was predeceased by his cherished sister and brothers here in Ottawa (Peter and Jim), in Greece (Nicki, Vasili, Dino, George and Tasso), and by his parents Themistokles and Stamatiki.
Nick loved being a husband, a father, and a Papou. His grandchildren were such a joy to him — Anastasia, Brianna and Nicholas, and Annalycia and Nicholas. He held a special place in his heart for Taki (Emily’s brother), Tassia’s sister (Christina), deceased brother-in-law (Kosta) and Tassia’s brother (Christos) and sister-in-law (Sotiria) and cherished his many nieces and nephews in Ottawa, Toronto and Greece, his sons’ in-laws and godchildren.
Nick touched many lives from the 1920s to the 2020s. Supported by his late uncle/aunt James and Angeliki Karrys and first cousins Bill (deceased) and Helen, he arrived in Ottawa from his birthplace (Partheni, Greece) in the late 50s. Nick embodied the entrepreneurial spirit — originally a tailor, but also a taxi cab driver, a food truck owner/operator, a cleaning company owner, and a convenience store manager. He loved working and providing for his family and was known for his integrity, generosity and his playfulness. He held his adopted country that gave him a new life as his own — Canada — but did not forget his place of birth. Early on, Nick supported a number of Greeks to immigrate to Canada, including his future wife Tassia, with whom he enjoyed an incredible bond of love and friendship that lasted more than six decades. Nick was a regular Churchgoer, and contributed to the community through presence and support from the 1950s.
A heartfelt thank you to the many nurses, Carly, Amelia and Lisa, and physicians of the Intensive Care Unit at the General Hospital for the compassionate care, loving attention and dignity shown to Nicholas. We will always remember their kindness. We are also very appreciative for the spiritual support from Protopresbyter Father Alex Michalopulos as well as the many prayers from family and friends. Family will receive friends on Monday, January 13 at Kimissis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church (1315 Prince of Wales Drive) from 5 pm to 7 p.m., with Trisagion Prayer at 7 p.m., and on Tuesday, January 14, from noon to 1:00 pm. The Funeral Service will follow in the church on Tuesday, January 14, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Pinecrest Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Hellenic Community of Ottawa (Greek Orthodox Church).
