Obituary for
Nestor Chanasyk
It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Nestor Chanasyk, formerly of Myrnam, announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, December 13, 2020, at the age of 92 years.
Nestor is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elsie; son, Len (Marilyn); daughter, Lorraine Alford; grandchildren, Alexis and John Alford; step-grandchild, TJ Townsend (Kim) and step-great-grandchild, Evelyn Townsend. Predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Xennia; siblings, Amelia Mytrunec, Bohdan, Victor, Alexander, and son-in-law, Wayne Alford.
From his humble beginnings growing up on a farm near Innisfree, he gained an appreciation and deep-found respect for the land and its changing seasons. He was proud of his Ukrainian heritage, and his faith remained strong. Dad always made people feel at ease with his dry sense of humour, coupled with his gift for storytelling. He was an avid reader and was a big fan of the Blue Jays and the Oilers. Dad celebrated in his children’s sports and dancing accomplishments. After a long day, he never objected to driving us to a practice, a game or a performance. Dad was most proud of his grandchildren, sharing stories and watching them blossom into the fine young woman and gentleman that they are today.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family funeral service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor, with Reverend Father Yuriy Suchevan officiating. Interment to follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. The funeral will be live-streamed at www.parkmemorial.com . The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Lifestyle Options Whitemud for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of other tributes, donations can be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation.
